First the most important news;
Romy and Shelly left our crew last week; in the coming week Ouiam will leave us and Milou will start studying soon. All these 4 girls have worked over 2.5 years for us and we are thankfull for that important period of both our personal lives and our business-developments that they helped to acomplish.
We wish all 4 of them the best for the future.

At this moment we are making room for a new watchmaker's estate, so larger lots parts and crafts-items will be listed. In the mean time we will also work on the store as we removed lots of duplicates that we need to recount.

The coming week we will be working on getting the gaskets back in the store in easy access listings with the choice of 5-10-25-50 pieces. We will also put back our male and female winding stem extenstion parts in thread size listings where choices can be made on length needed. They will be placed in the crowns directory.

Two important reasons;

we had lots of duplicate listings. Over the years we always listed what we had and did not look back in our history. That now turned out to be a mistake; eBay made that very clear on several occasions. Most duplicates were in the parts, the day/date disks and only a few in the watch bands. It will take some time to get all corrected, specially because some titles need to be made more specific; like on balance staffs; Incabloc, supershock, Nouv, are all different staffs for one and the same caliber....
we started listing with Variations. Best example you can find in the Di-modell and Rios watch bands. You can choose color buckle, size at case. But, our buckle-collection is also for a large part with variation listings. It makes the store a better place to be; it surfs and searches quicker.

Goal is to have the store updated by the end of August. All put together what can be put together, Variations where it makes sense.

Along the way we also removed some listings with mistypes in them or missing pictures. If you find one, please do let me know!

Due to eBay's new policy to "clean up" the market-place from overwhelming identical listings, we made the decision to transfer our Di-modell collection bands into Variation listings. You select the size and the buckle, Buy it Now, Checkout and you're done!

We will also update our Swiss quality collection which contains high quality low priced watch bands.
And last but not least, don't forget to select a buckle or deployment clip!

The movement parts are also being subject to a clean-up, but only the winding stems will be transferred into variation listings when we have an obvious length difference.

We will work on clear messages for Combined shipping (with different items in one order the seller always needs to adjust!), to maintain or low rates for international shipping. Our shipping charge for small items (envelope shipping) starts at US $ 3.49. Additional items will be charged 0.70 (EU) or 0.90 (outside EU) us $ for additional same-weight items.

For example; when you buy a movement that has shipping set at US $ 5.95 and you buy an additional watch band that has shipping at US $ 3.49, we will charge, within the EU; 5.95 + 0.70, and outside the EU 5.95 + 0.90 US $.

Translated from the latest Hicc update, received 18 febr by @:

The American government have made the security requirements for the air transport of mail with destination more flexible. This means that letter-packages and mail parcels, which are heavier than 500 grams can be transported by air. These consignments are delayed by a quarantine period of 4 days before they can be transported by plain. The normal delivery time will therefore be lengthened by 4 workingdays.

"De Amerikaanse overheid heeft de veiligheidseisen voor het luchtvervoer van post met bestemming VS versoepeld. Dit betekent dat briefpakjes en postpakketten, die zwaarder zijn dan 500 gram, weer door de lucht vervoerd mogen worden. Deze zendingen hebben nog wel een quarantaine periode van 4 dagen alvorens ze per vliegtuig vervoerd mogen worden. Hierdoor ontstaat een vertraging in de overkomstduur van 4 dagen."

I am slightly disappointed by some buyers that gave negatives because of the delays, but I also recognise it's part of doing international business. These buyers are blocked from further buying according to the Company policies page.

Then, we now see arrivals from late packages shipped in the week of the 14th of december. From the week before all except for one did arrive. No reports of the week after, just some customers that forgot we are located in The Netherlands.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has declared a Force Majeure which commenced on Monday 10th January 2011 due to the continued heavy snow and high wind alerts crossing the Southeast, Midwest, and travelling up the Northeast region of the US impacting in and outbound mail flows. There will be delays to inbound and outbound mail services in affected areas.
Update - 17th January:
With effect from 14 January 2011, postal operations have returned to normal in New York and the north-eastern part of the United States, as well as in the surrounding areas.

As time goes on we get more and more reports of non-arrivals (20 boxed packages so far), all USA customers, all items packed in a small or larger box. (detail; all envelopes and registered packages have arrived!).
The delay is now 2, nearly 3 weeks later then usuall and that is too late. I've offered the customers refund on the 55th day after Paypal payment.

The TNTpost also looked into my report of this unusuall large amount of late packages and have followed the route so far and have come to two possibilities (the strike delay was not of a big influence);
- either it's waiting at customes for security check
- or, since it was not initially clear what weight would be set as maximum Airmail import (453 grams), a large amount was also shipped by ground- overseas in our case. That does explain the extra delay as that's always 2-3 weeks slower then airmail.

So, at this point I'm still confident all will arrive, as the amount of "lost" packages is too large to be true. I hope my customers share that with me.

We will ship with the Royal Dutch TNT Post in 2011.

Japan Post Services Co. said it will stop accepting airmail packages bound for the United States weighing 453 grams (1 pound) or more starting Wednesday because airlines will stop such delivery at the request of U.S. aviation authorities as part of antiterrorism measures.

The postal services arm of Japan Post Holdings Co. handles 16 million letters and packages by air and sea to the U.S. annually, and "15 percent of that will be affected," a Japan Post spokesman said. That means about 200,000 packages a month will be affected.

The company said it will accept packages from senders that use a service enabling them to pay after delivery instead of beforehand, a service designated for regular customers, even if a package weighs 453 grams or more. The company will notify the public of any changes in the situation, the spokesman said.
The Transportation Security Administration of the U.S. has informed air carriers of the 453-gram rule, and carriers notified Japan Post Services, the spokesman said. The rule applies not only to packages from Japan but from other countries.

Packages containing explosives were found in Britain and Dubai on two cargo planes from Yemen bound for the U.S. in late October. The TSA heightened its aviation alert level since then.

The Japanese units of Fedex Corp., United Parcel Service of America Inc. and DHL International GmbH said they have no similar plans as Japan Post's. But DHL "will cooperate with the United States and other countries as they have raised (the) security level," spokeswoman Maho Takahashi said.
Overseas Courier Service Ltd. said it stopped accepting packages Friday to be delivered to the U.S., Latin America, Europe and Africa containing ink cartridges or toner cartridges weighing more than 450 grams.

1. Packinglists will no longer be included. Each week a whole pack of paper is going into our shipments (500 pages) and most of these shipments are for single items. Besides the fact that most customers will read it and throw it away; all information is also available online (in the customers "my eBay").
Larger orders with lots of different items will get along a packinglist when neccecary.

This will make our company Greener and more efficient.

2. Wednesday the decision will be made with who we will ship in 2011. TNT- SwissPost?

3. To live up to the customers expectations we will shift our shipping-days to Monday and Thursday, so we can live up to the 2 days handlingtime. Items with one-day (the expensive bands) will be done the same or following day, seperately from the rest.

We are in the middle of making a possible switch to SwissPost for all our business mail.

Why TNT-Post out?

- main reason; TNTPost is so big that issues take very long to resolve (11 months!!)

- registered mail is too expensive for our light weight items

- track & trace is not always complete

Why SwissPost in?

- after 1 telephone call I had an appointment for a view on my postal questions

- the day after I received a proposal

- the communication-lines are short (for ordering materials; reporting issues and so on)

Why does TNT-Post come with a new price-list and contract when I'm about to switch? Overall I don't feel as we are valued as customer.....

Postal strikes!! at the Dutch TNTPost; delays in shipments...

The postal strikes are still not solved; see here on the Dutch postal services from TNT on DutchNews.

Last week the strike was 3 full days; wednesday until friday,

the coming week Wednesday the 15th will be "strike-day".

We will deliver our mail Tuesday and Friday at the TNT to avoid to much issues. We hope this will be over soon!

As a result of these strikes we will look into other shipping-services like Swisspost and DHL.

Ebay has something new; Item Condition. We made a huge upgrade yesterday on most of our listings, but since we did it with bulk change we will need to do some more fine-tuning and correct Conditions here and there.

We also made a new Store Header with new picture links. We hope it makes the browsing in the store more efficient for you.

Company policies for disputes, some answers!

After seeing some negatives emerge (and some neutrals), there seems to be some need to point out the consequesces of these feedbacks:
- We always follow up on the given negative
- We always urge for prior contact before a feedback that is not positive
- We block all buyers that give neutrals and negatives, indefinately
- We only refund for faulty items when it has been returned
- We sell 90% international; please check your spamfilters for our shipped email.
- Returning an item? Address is on the packinglist that we included in the package.

Sometimes packages disappear, due to the postal systems, theft of wrong addresses. That's part of doing international business, but posting a negative or neutral over it does not help getting issues solved, or helps in getting what you ordered, or a replacement of that.

Stay friendly, email in the language the item was listed (English!), give us 48 hours to respond please.

According to information in the Swatch book the first bands were not signed anywhere, and 7 holes bands were used for a very small time-period.
Still I cannot be sure they are really from that time-period, so I described them as bestfit.

Crew update and new plans for 2010!

In december we said goodbye to Anouk R, who moved to another city. We wish her good luck with her education! We welcome Bianca, we hope you enjoy working with us!

- with the buyer blocks we try to protect our buyers from theft in the mail. Most buyers will get permission to bid after sending us an email, we will use (and charge) registered mail, that starts at 13.50 us $. In januari the first results were seen; less non-arrival Paypal disputes (only 2!), and less email about lost packages.
The long term result will be that we have more time to answer questions and more time to list new items!

- we will revieuw the store-traffic. Update the standard pages around the eBay store to make searching more easy. Any ideas are off course welcome.

- we will make more month specific sales and announce them with email marketing and a note on our blog.

- the header in the store will be redone (new pictures) and quick links will be reviewed if they are stillginving the results that we would like them to show.

Reduction of CO2 emission, plastics recycling

To support the reduction of CO2 emission we have decided that from now on we will participate in TNT Post's climate projects. For every package we send, we will pay an extra fee which is used by TNT to compensate for the CO2 that is required for the delivery of the package.

For the coming three months we have plans on:

- and, updting the store with our unlisted stock and off course new items.

Every week we check boxes, for the coming two, maybe three weeks we will check the "Dials-box" and a start will be made on the Ladies size watch bands (5-15 mm).

We are expecting to add more buckles in various sizes and colors in the store (all new), plus an upgrade in the gents leather watch bands.
In the last major lot we bought are many important watch movement parts for rare calibers, we will most likely need several weeks to put it all on eBay.

A new amount of quality watch bands is coming. Amoung with a huge update of the already listed watch bands and bracelets we are working on new high grade stuff to put on eBay. It should be on ebay in about 2 weeks from now.

Then; watch movement parts; still not at the end of counting, making bags with parts ready for sale, checking N.O.S. quartz movements, so there is much to expect from us in the coming months. Don't forget to check our lots of watch movement parts; we made them assorted on caliber and in the mix.

Well, loads of movement parts movements and "lots" for starters for all calibers we can find. We are no watchmakers, but will try to give advise and direction to search when we can. Since the checking of old stock movements is time-consuming, we often say on requests for specials; no, we cannot help at this time.....well, keep checking. We list every day new items in the store and in auction.

Have your eBay search engine in "my eBay" on to alert you when you are in need for a special caliber. The quickest way to surf- search through our store is by quick specifics, like "ETA 2390". Or, "stem 2390". If you need help, please do feel free to ask.

We have news! Two new crew-members; Anouk and Janneke started in december, welcome!

The re-build of the store is finsihed, only some paintwork and we're done. We now have a toilet downstairs and more storage-space. The plans are to maintain the watches and expand the movements and movement parts and specialise more in the watch bands. Hopefully you will like our new additions, but it's soo much we need time to put it on eBay.

And, a new family-member is coming!
Yes, Diederick will get a brother or sister, somewhere in August 2009.

We are growing so fast that we need to rethink our strategy each month again. Growing is not easy, it's not that we need more space, but we need more crew, need to work out standardized working-routines and much more.
(and, some negatives along the way......we hope we'll be forgiven).

But, we think we are doing you a great pleasure; we have Omega watch bands, buckles and some more bracelets! Around 350 items all together, including some rare ones alike Omega Dynamic bracelets and bands, classic buckles and we even have a few 18k buckles on a black strap!

Then, our plans for oktober; expending our movements category some more with N.O.S. movements and pulling the garage into the workingroom. We'll show a before and after when we are done.

Ebay has thought a new way to put some pressure on sellers to perform better; that's a good thing. They made DSR; Buyer satisfaction ratings.
On DESCRIPTION, COMMUNICATION, SHIPPING TIME, S&H CHARGES.

From the date it started I've seen weird things happen; status from lowered after one dispute "item not received", till a raised status after a quiet period.
What I can tell you is the difference in our figures over a 2 month period; that says all about our way of doing business:

We're sorry, it took us time to get back up on our feet again. After the transfer to two new computers with Vista and the database in a new system, we needed some time to get all back to our normal rythem again.
Still some emails behind, please do know; all will get answered. If you have the feeling you are being forgotten, please do feel free to email me directly at ebay@globalwatchstraps.com.

Then, some shipping-issues;
1. During the last couple of weeks we shipped some incomplete packages. We normally don't, but this time speed in shipping was the better option over getting it completed and ship it a week later. Normally we also email you when this happens, we hope you will understand that we lacked that over the last couple of weeks. We're sorry.
2. It has come to our attention that some shipments around 1 july and earlier have not arrived yet. These buyers all should have gotten an email today (sunday) to filter out the issue and point directions to TNT what action should be taken. Thank you for helping us on this.

Company news:
Somewhat late; but all 4 employees (Simone, Kim, Romy and Ouiam) that had school exams passed and will go to University next year. We wish them all the best with their new study's!
Then, a new crew-member: Daphne, starting 1 august!

What are we up to?
filling up the movements category and the parts boxes. We have so many unlisted stock, so many nice quality movements and parts!

Ok, two new computers, a Drobo containing a huge amont of storage space and we're ready to move on. The mailbox is screaming for our attention so we will devide the work in issues and questions and hope to get them done by the weekend.

Lost all emails from last evening till this morning, the rest was in the automatic backup. This time my main computer was not able to be repaired.....

BUT: I had already ordered in a DROBO and that's what I'm installing at this time, and a new laptop. So, hopefully, within a few hours from now Ill be up and running as usuall....I hope.

We bought a large amount of gaskets, in 40 sizes. We made lots in quantities; 5 pcs; 10 pcs, 25 pcs and 50 pcs, lot's of 20 grams and we will make size assorted lots later on this month. One little bag was inserted;

We also have case clamps for Omega (and screws) for carious cases;

Last but not least a thank you to my brother who repaired my computer tuesday after a harddisk crash. We are still some behind on email, but all is up and running and repaired, so we will be able to fill eBay with our little goodies!

Please read this first; a topic in the Italian post; more and more eBayers do not ship to Italy (and some other countries). South America, France, Spain, some Asian countries are named as well.

Off course we had our issues with mail;
- Italy is a nightmare; overall good customers, but serious mail problems in that country
- France; if there arrises an issue it's usually around Paris. So we keep our eyes open for packages to that region.
- Spain; no issues yet that I can recall. Portugal just as good.
- South America; don't ask; we ship there but registered mail only. Otherwise it takes more then 4-6 weeks and eventually does not arrive.
- Malaysia, The Phillipines; takes ages if it ever arrives; registered mail only.

We will keep on shipping to these countries, but we monitor very closely; and use registered mail in most cases.

Ebay's feedback changes, my thoughts..........

The 19th eBay started to change their feedback system. Steady sellers have nothing to worry about, except that they need to revieuw their Seller Dashboard on "my eBay" frequently, to make sure their account is in good standing.

Overall the changes are a good thing for buyers. Reviewing the seller's account is easier and says more then it did before the changes; in my case; it's finally good to say I have loads of multiple and returning buyers and I finally got rewarded for it.
But; a small downside; the seller protection is almost down;
- NPB's still can leave negative feedbacks that will stay, as long as they have left one response
- They can open a dispute for non-performance when they want to pay with a method you accept. Sellers cannot appeal to that.
- Sellers do not get a chance to solve issues, and more important; why should they when a buyer is leaving a negative without email?

I do hope that bad buyers will be punished somewhere, or that we, as sellers, can use tools to fight for our good standing. Because buyers like Marie from France that have a postman that steals two watch bands......that's something I cannot do anything about.

When getting nearly 100 new emails a day (mostly size-measurement and shipping questions) each day of the year, there HAS to come a time when I saw the number un-answered hitting the roof. Then, some negatives more this month for various weird reasons made me decide I had too seek for a good, solid solution.

One that provides more time for:
- my family
- my auctions
- and; the after sales.

So; I made a self-answering knowledge centre that helps me answering the easy questions. The rest is re-directed to my email so get's answered, in a more timely matter. Hopefully I will get up the feedback score and more time for auctions.

This "online database" will also grow as questions are asked; some questions and replies will be entered into the machine to it helps future customers. I hope you like it!

Last week I bought something on eBat, that was a long time agoo. 7 pairs of shoes, one shipping-charge and 6 times a lower charge. I was stunned that the seller would not lower that when getting a, in my view, large order. Anyway, total shipping; 125 us $.

Now, for my eBay store. Since januari my listings have shipping-charges (most of them) and I get emails on how I combine. Well; the cheapest and best way for the buyer. Since the postal system in our country has some different tax rules, we have shipping as a seperate part in our business. We do not make profit, we ask what we need. We do a monthly count on the total bill and review our received shipping charges and correct the running eBay listings if needed.

An example;
- Two the same Ferragamo straps 22 mm; 2.95 plus 0.30. (Because it's one handling, both straps are in the same place)
- One Ferragamo 22 mm, one Atlantic 20 mm, 2.95 plus a little, usually the total charge is 3.50 us $. Why? Two places, a little more effort, but still the charge I need for getting them shipping in one order.
- Two Graf expensive watch bands? 12.50 us $, registered mail. That goes up to 100 grams before the charge goes up, so 3 straps can also ship registered for the same charge. Or, insured if you wish, 16.50 us $.

Overall, on the yearly bases we play "even" on shipping, the last 4 years we asked what we needed, a total of 200 euro of.......that's a good % on a total bill of about 25.000 euro.

Interesting email about feedback.......my thoughts

Thanks for the update. I never leave feedback for a seller that has not
left for me based on good payment.

And I do understand that, but with the upcoming changes in the feedback
system it does not matter anyway. My point is that I get the space to
correct an error. When I leave feedback before the transaction is complete
(received in satisfactory condition) there is no way I can mention the
buyers behavior if that's beyond..well, you know. The larger I get as eBay
shop the easier negatives are left by buyers, as if I don't care?...

you belie your last comment "as if I don't care" by playing games with feedback instead of just doing the right thing and leaving what is due.
Feedback when used as a "I'll say nice things about you if you do the same for me" bastardizes the process and degrades those involved. The larger you get the more chances you have to be honorable....or not.

Is that so? Before I hit the 10.000, that was in December, I had less negatives in a 6-moth period then I do now. And I still do not know what is causing that. People do not respond on emails to get things solved.....It's the way the world works; we are getting more egocentric. Do you get the idea I play games with feedback?

I see it the other way around; I give automated positive feedback on each one received. That's easy as there are 200-300 to do on a weekly bases. Then, some people do not give feedback at all, or want to hide their source. Also fine.
But; the feedback system is changing; my positives and the overall ratio is also affecting my seller-fees and monthly bill.

I do nearly anything to get issues solved, even half a year later when a lost item surfaces I contact the original buyer.

Somewhere in the coming months I'll not be able to give negatives or neutrals, only positives. So, if I would do it like you suggest; what will happen with my policy of problem-solving? I solve 99% of all issues (loses, damages, you name it). The overall picture is in my idea good and works for nearly all my buyers. In fact, the people I do have contact with to get something solved are the best returning customers. I think, that if I would do it the other way around, I would need more time for after sales, more frustration on my side, more negatives that do not get solved.........not my idea of community values.

They (eBay) are clear on feedback; give when the transaction is complete; in my view that is when the buyer is satisfied and the only way I know is either to ask (much more handling-time), or to wait for the feedback. The last option is in my view the best of both, measured in time. I need to fill my store in the time left next to answering emails.

We are "nearly done" with revising all listings. It's a majour job, all items need to get the right shipping-fee and the last 1500 (parts, boxes, folders, weird items) are more work then the first 4500 :-). Anyway, it saves me time in the end on sending emails, so
each day we revise another 100 till we're really done.

In the mean time we have; Geneva watches in all kinds of styles and colours, mechanical watches and some top-line watches.

Somehow, somewhere along the line eBay changed some features on the US-site. Goal; provide shipping-charges and make the sales more transparent. That's a good thing. BUT, our location is The Netherlands and we list on eBay.com, so we invoice afterwards..........and do not tell upfront in each listing what the costs are.

Now that has changed. We are working on revising all listings and set them to:
- Avaialble; Worldwide
- Shipping charge a piece.

If you buy several items, just @ me when you're done though eBay and I'll make you an invoice with correct shipping, so you don't overpay.

We are nearly done, only the crystals and movement parts need to be revised, bands and watches should be set to Worldwide, with a shipping-charge.

When you are not able to bid, leave me a short line so I can fix that for you. Eventually it's a good thing, but majour changes like this take some effort.

My oh my, the amount or non-deliverable emails- answers to questions and invoices were going through the roof! It drove me nuts, but, worse; my buyers must have been thinking; where's my invoice? my answer??

My solution; a new internet-provider. A better one. More secure and on top of spamming and keeping their severs safe. The switch will happen end februari!

some of the stuff I have loads of are placed on more sites.......and some of my larger buyers have seen that as well. But aaargh, it does not combine, Canadina sales do not automaticly combine with US sales, UK sales or otherwise.

That gives weird situations and my database sometimes prints it on the packinglist as well.. something (a bug??) for the Blackthorne team to look into, this is time-consuming as it's easy to make mistakes.

Please let men know when you have the feeling I missed something!

Oh oh, my computer broke down!

I scanned some papers and poefffff..... my computer fell dead. Nothing. Just some movement when trying to turn it on in the powerfeed.Oh Oh, I never did a repair this big in my machine and my brother is on holiday in Greece! HELP!

After some minutes I decided to take the chance and do it myself, I have a dualcore laptop as backup so if I mess up I just screw the harddisks out to work on. But, writing this blog you must have some to the conclusion that I fixed the problem myself; 50 euro's and I'm ready to go again for the coming months.

Every 3 months the same; tax paying time! It involves lot's of time, to do all accounting for the last 3 months. But; this time it went faster; I'm getting there! Excel discloses more secrets every time I do this (4 times a year), I make notes of new things that make this job faster and more efficient.

But; it's done. pfffff.

Now, back to listing some more mechanical stuff, some watch bands, movements and more silly stuff! I'll be really glad when my crew comes back from holiday!
